I purchased this battery welder as a replacement for a small portable unit that I had for about four years. The previous model (Kerpu brand) never really worked as well as I hoped for. The Kerpu encountered issues a few years ago and I had to replace the cables. The Kerpu finally died (battery failure to recharge) a few months ago. I was able to make battery packs but some connections were less than desirable and I was welding 6-8 times to keep the nickel strips in place, at full power.
The welder came within 7-8 days and I was able to set it up within 2-3 minutes. The difference between this welder and my old portable was night and day. I have the power gear setting at 3.5 and it welds nickel strips perfectly. I'm using 1mm pure nickel and this welder has no problem getting the job done. It takes a few seconds for the voltage to catch back up when I'm humming along. I probably would have been happy with the less expensive model, but I'm completely satisfied with this purchase.
