My electrician wired it into my sub panel, and he was impressed with the unit. I added a small metal piece-a safety latch so no one could open when live. I bought the 50" cord also and plan to use them with my gen. in case of power loss. I hope I never get to use them, that would be ok with me, but I now have them if needed. We like the Led light on the box. TOM
