Whilst having all the pieces to perform the task, the central pin - which expands the collet- is a quite soft (though metal) and got deformed by the collets resulting in the the collet contracting and slipping out of the bearing centre hole. This happened repeatedly on a smaller bearing which I had to eventually remove with a punch and hammer.

Great set for price and comparison of what you buy in shop. Shops are 9pce and 3 times price, great having the 16pce.

Removed outer races. Had to reinsert once for both races. Started to move on first slide hammer. Removed two races with ease. Hold was solid on outer races. Highly recommend as long as this fits your needs. High quality product for less than others (searched in multiple places). Solid storage box, had one crack and everything inside was tossed in shipping most likely but otherwise in great condition on arrival.

Worked for what I bought it for. Forward gear race removal on a mariner lower unit, largest remover was big enough and thin enough to not hit housing, had to buy a crowsgoot socket and long extension to hold lower nut inorder to expand collet. And had to add a section of threaded rod to get extra room to move slide hammer, couple good whacks and popped right out. Only tool I could find that work. Thanks vevor.
