These heavy machine Skate Dolly's are solidly made and roll very easily. 6 ton load for each is far higher than I need.
My metal lathe only weighs 3 ton & the Milling machine 1.3 ton.
However, moving them around on an uneven concrete floor is, to say the least, challenging.
Because of an uneven floor the Skate Dolly's disengage, coming out from the under machine. The machine then slumps
onto that lower corner, jambing its forward movement. Very frustrating and takes a lot of time and effort to jack it up and reposition the Skate Dolly. ( I have not yet seen a concrete floor that is perfectly level. )
ONE simple feature change would solve this problem and make them much easier to use.
Instead of round tube at the front and rear of the Skate Dolly, a larger Rectangular section that can take a length of rectangular Tube so two Skate Dolly's connect to each other. This would hold them in the correct location under the machine as the floor varies, would be a great benefit.
I will be modifying mine to do this. The Lathe & Mill will be moved around during repair as space is at a premium. Then later into larger shed. Thanks, Martin Falls
