Works well but power supply failed after ~18 months of use
Reviewed on Jan 15, 2025
We used the unit for a plant room humidifier with automatic water fill that maintains exactly the right water depth. The device worked well for about 18 months under fairly heavy use, but then the power supply burned out. So now the unit is dead. I checked with the seller and after a week of back-and-forth flowery but meaningless communications they denied warranty coverage which is only 1 year. I knew that and had not asked for warranty coverage. I had simply asked to purchase a replacement power supply. They ultimately said they do not allow you to purchase a replacement power supply. You have to replace the entire unit. Or, they suggested taking it to a local repair shop. I took the top off the case and as you can see in the picture, the case is poured completely full of an epoxy potting compound. It is fundamentally non-repairable. The area where a hot component failed and burst through the potting compound can be seen in the photo. The power supply looks robust, but with a 12 head unit it runs quite hot, IR shows 135 degrees F in some areas of the case-- too hot to hold your hand on it. Running at that case temperature, the product engineers surely recognize that the solid-filled unit operates with much higher internal component temperatures. So hot that it pretty well guarantees a severely limited lifetime. No doubt their testing has shown that lifetime generally extends beyond the warranty period. It's a cynical design practice, but probably valid in most cases.
