There are no directions for use of the carbon filter or if they are required. I use distilled water for cleaning of medical equipment (the manufacturer says to boil in distilled water), so I think I don't need to use the carbon filter, but I am not sure. You will need a source for the carbon filters (if you use them) and for the cleaning powder (which I believe is citric acid). A small jar comes with the device, but I doubt that it will last very long. It would have been helpful if the manufacturer could have provided more info on what materials can be used for cleaning (citric acid? vinegar?...) and what the carbon filter is necessary for.

Like the distilled. Easy to clean with 50 % vinegar and water. Let stand for 3 _ 4 hours wipe dry.

From first use it’s simple and worked as expected. We purchased this to put purified water in our ultrasonic cool mist humidifiers. I use it daily and a few times on the weekend and it easily keeps up with required supply for three humidifiers. We have extremely hard water so I have to clean it a little more often and actually had to find a different cleaner than the one that came with it (as it didn’t really work to my expectation) and still struggle to get it completely clean but that is not detrimental enough to keep me from using it. Great product that does as described.

I bought this distiller because my CPAP uses a lot of water and it seems that store bought distilled water is in very short supply. The instructions were pretty poor, but I was able to find instructional videos online. The unit is easy to use, and it takes about four hours to process a gallon of water. As people have mentioned in other reviews, if you let it go until the tank is empty, there is some rusty looking residue on the bottom. This is easily cleaned by putting a little bit of citric acid in with a bit of water and wiping the residue out with a cloth or sponge.The blue plastic collection bottle is pretty basic, and I decant the distilled water into gallon jugs that I saved from before.I love my distiller and highly recommend for people who use CPAPs or humidifiers.

It isn't terribly complicated but you may still want to look for some online videos on usage before starting it up. The manual isn't very instructive or clear. Average speed of a gallon of distilled water is about 4 hours from start to finish. Everything is easy to wipe down and clean.

I have used this for several months overseas. It has been dependable and works very well. I read some of the reviews before I bought it and I haven't had any problems with the main complaint I read, that of a plastic smell or taste. I rinsed it out good and then ran a couple loads where I tossed the water and since then it's been great.It comes with some cleaning solution but I don't use it. Instead I pour some vinegar in it and let is soak. That cleans it out real good. If I want to clean the insides, I'll turn it on with the vinegar and run a small batch.
