Operates very nicely and is a great choice for a countertop distiller -- haven't seen much difference between expensive and inexpensive countertop models of similar design and I've had one of each. I've read this type typically has a 2 year life span and that also has been my experience. Accordingly, the reasonable price is a factor which recommends this machine. The distiller comes with cleaning packets called "detergent." The usual cleaning agent is powdered citric acid, which you can get at most big box stores or on Amazon. You use it much as one would apply Comet or the like -- sprinkle, rub, rinse. One person commenting here heated the appliance with water to which was added some vinegar, which I haven't tried.Strongly recommend this distiller for anyone with a CPAP machine. You can distill smaller doses and keep a reasonable supply next to your CPAP. I prefer having a home distiller; not a fan of single use plastic water bottles nor lugging heavy water bottles home nor of running out of distilled water at inconvenient times. And, that handle which helps one lift the top off the distiller is a handy feature!
