We have a wider fire pit and this is perfect for cooking over it. It hangs over the sides about 6 inches or so, keeping it from getting too hot to touch if you need to move it around over the fire/coals, which is exactly why I bought one this large. Love it.

I like the grate and works well for intended purpose. I am cautious to leave it over an open flame such as a larger camp fire. I'm not sure it would maintain structural integrity. Overall very satisfied with the product.
