Good Anvil

Good buy
Very good anvil for the price and good bounce. I'm not crazy about the color but I know that will fade with time. It's a good buy for new smiths

Great starter anvil
The anvil arrived in fairly poor packaging, however the anvil itself was not damaged. Seems to be a good starter anvil. only slight complaint is that the anvil came in weighed by fedex at 98 pounds and not 110 as advertised. All in all seems like a good little anvil

A great choice for a beginner like me!
She is good and heavy, rings like a church bell! The only problem I had were micro cracks appeared on the face the in her first go around. But these guys did great and got me taken care of

Good value
Excellent small bench top anvil. Soft steels and non ferrous metals no problems hard steel will mark it. No complaints at this price point. Great buy.

Rings like a bell, but can't be beat... well I guess you can beat on it which is when it rings like a bell. Pretty normal for a solid cast anvil and how you know it's steel not iron. Either wrap a chain around it or spend another $1000 for grey iron cast to a steel work surface.

Exactly as expected
The reviews on this were very hit or miss, with more hits than misses. I must have gotten a better one than some of the poor reviews. The anvil is as advertised. It has a perfect surface to work on, but the rest is clearly cast and has the imperfections to show for it. Inside the Hardy hole you can see it is kind of an afterthought when this was made. It looks like it was originally a circle, and then turned into a square. Dimensions are as described however, and it is almost a square. But again, after reading the reviews, you know what to expect. I will need to file down a blob of steel in the Hardy hole, but other than that, everything is ready to use. I don't mind the blue paint, and will decide whether or not I need to perfect the surface of the horn. It has very small raised bumps on it from the mold that look and feel like letters written in braille. They are spaced out around the entire horn, but I can't imagine at the stage I am in, having to worry about them being any more than a minute amount of sanding on the belt. For the money, and that is the trick, for the money, I couldn't be happier. I was able to buy everything else I needed to start making knives, for the difference of what a finer anvil would have cost. And at this point in my journey, I don't need a finer anvil. This one is probably more than I need as it is. And there is the value. Very happy with it.

its an anvil
I am a novice blacksmith:It is exactly what you would expect. A descent sized anvil. Has quite a ring. Good bounce. There is going to be some extensive clean up to get rid of that blue paint, to reshape the horn into an actual horn, and to correct some minor defects. Looks like the hardy hole will need some attention as well. Worst case in a few years, i will use it as a punch plate and frequently used hardy tool holder. The "Gift hammer" i got was a crappy 100 gram piece of junk, not the 500 gram one advertised. At least my 9 year old will get to play blacksmith with it, after i reset the head on a new handle.

More then I hoped for.
I have waited to give this review because i was worried about longevity. I have pounded at this anvil and ran it threw the paces. anything from chisels and ball peen hammers have had direct hits on the face with very small reflection. It did well with a 16 lb sledge hammer with overhead swinging. The surface is very flat and the edges were very sharp I filled my edges down a bit because i was worred about chipping. the hardy was 7/8 by 15/16 with lots of paint and some sort of crusty stuff set aside 5 hours with a file if you want to fix that. face was very hard with a 95 % rebound. This anvil has helped me get twice the work done that i did on my 80 lb railroad track joint in half the time.
